Calling all Girls Rock teens! Join Girls Rock MKE Executive Director Mary Joy and the Milwaukee Rep's Teen Council for a FREE dinner and a ticket to Marie and Rosetta, the electrifying musical story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight as influential women in rock history!

This event is entirely FREE for teens! Join us before the show for a pre-show reception with free food, and stick around after the show for a panel on Successful Black & Brown Women in the Workplace!

Pre-show Reception begins at 6:30pm, show begins at 7:30pm, the panel will take place following the show, until approximately 10:00pm.

Approximate Running Time: 1 hour and 50 minutes with no intermission
Recommended Age: 14 and up

JoyFest is a celebration of the joy found in community, creativity, and the power of the collective. The festival will include workshop programming, performances from Girls Rock and Ladies Rock camp alumni, and local acts highlighting the contributions of marginalized genders across Milwaukee’s creative spaces. JoyFest will embrace the generous spirit of the holiday season with a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, VIP ticketing, and opportunities to include Girls Rock MKE in your philanthropic giving. Your holiday glam attire is vigorously encouraged, but not required. All event proceeds will go to support Girls Rock MKE’s sustainability and 2025 growth initiatives.

Girls Rock MKE Presents: The Dinner Party

Just Announced! Girls Rock is throwing a dinner party and you're cordially invited to this exclusive, elevated dining experience!

In 1979, artist Judy Chicago completed her famous feminist installation piece titled The Dinner Party, featuring 39 mythical and historical women with a goal of preventing the forgetting of women's contributions to the world. Girls Rock MKE invites you to join our modern day Dinner Party to benefit our Girls Rock and Ladies Rock camp programs, which empower individuals of marginalized identities and diverse experiences through music education and performance.  

This inspiring culinary experience will feature FIVE courses from five of Milwaukee's top women and non-binary chefs. More information and full menu coming soon, but don't wait to grab your seat at the table - this intimate dinner is capped at 60 attendees.

ABOUT LADIES ROCK

Ladies Rock camp, a Girls Rock MKE program for adults, is an intensive Friday-Sunday music camp in Milwaukee, WI, for women and gender-expansive people who are 18 years or older. Campers of all skill levels learn an instrument (guitar, bass, drums, keyboards or vocals), form a band, write a song, and perform their song at an end-of-camp showcase for friends, family and fans!

Campers do not need musical experience to participate. Ladies Rock camp is a fun, welcoming, accessible program that encourages folks to try something new and build confidence in themselves.

Camp runs Friday through Sunday, April 5-7, 2024.

Girls Rock MKE @ Beet Street Festival

This year’s Beet Street is happening on October 7th!

The family-friendly celebration takes over the block of S. Wentworth Ave. between Potter (Goodkind) and Russell (Cactus). Bay View Historical Society, abolitionists, high school art clubs, environmental justice organizers, voter registrants, and LGBTQ+ resources all have a presence. We uplift the intersections of art and movement building.

There is a punk rock rummage sale, maker market, face painting, a juried pie contest “The Great Midwestern Pie Championship” at Palomino, a photo booth, a music video showcase that screens in the live room of the club, and delicious seasonal refreshments and libations.

Inside the bar we’ll have a different WMSE DJ spinning every hour.

Battle of the Bands Fundraiser

Organizers for Girls Rock MKE have asked local musicians to help raise $5,000 of its total goal via a digital peer-to-peer campaign and in-person Battle of the Bands fundraiser. The Girls Rock MKE community as well as the general public are highly encouraged to attend.

The Battle of the Bands will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at X-Ray Arcade (5036 S. Packard Ave. Cudahy, WI 53110). Artists including Panko Stankhole, June Gloom, Ali J, Araelee Berberbaby, and Lauryl Sulfate & Her Ladies of Leisure will each play a 20-minute set during the all-ages fundraiser event, and attendees will be able to vote for their favorite artist. Tickets can be purchased here ($15) or at the door on the day of the event ($18).

This Saturday, August 26th is the 13th Annual WMSE Backyard BBQ!!! Join us at Humboldt Park between 2-3:30pm for performances from 2023 Girls Rock alums Itty Bitty Tiny Toes the Fourth, Painted Pink, and Pickled Brownies; as well as 2023 Ladies Rock alums Pinky & the Sweats and Sidewalk Chalk!

We’ll also be raffling off a Les Paul Jr adult guitar and hard case. Email fundraising@girlsrockmke.org for details.

Girls Rock MKE is lending helping hands to the Milwaukee Marathon to fundraise for our organization. We will be gathering as a group in the early hours of Sunday, March 26, 2023 downtown at Fiserv Forum to support the Milwaukee Half Marathon & 5K.

Neighborhood Tour 2021 - July

The second stop of the Neighborhood Tour moves to the Washington Heights neighborhood on July 17 and will include a panel on “Working Femme in the Music Industry.” Participating panelists will be announced before the event.

A special guest performance with a “to be announced” musical guest performance aftershow! The discussion will be geared toward ages 8-16 and is open to all who attend.

In addition to the panel discussion, a shrinky dink make-and-take craft activity will be on-site.

Neighborhood campers are welcome to watch the panel, ask questions and stay after to watch the outdoor show!

There is no cost to watch the panel. Donations to Girls Rock MKE are always encouraged to support our mission.
